From the Edge - 30 Anecdotes

This month, my mind turned to the heartbreaking news we see, hear and read about every single day from Ukraine. It made me become quite reflective and think about some of the situations I’ve encountered in my work.

Here are a few anecdotes I’d like to share with you. They’re anonymised or composites.

15 -

I’ve just come back from holiday and I haven’t got any money. Can I pay you in Euros?

1 - Your room is never the right temperature, it’s always too hot or too cold.

2 - Why don’t you have air conditioning?

3 - You’ve changed the picture on your wall. I preferred the other one.

4 - You’ve redecorated your room during the summer. I liked it more before.

5 - I really didn’t want to come today and I only did because I know I’d have to pay.

6 - I can’t find anywhere to park. What shall I do?

7 - My girlfriend’s outside and she’d like to come in to meet you. Is that OK?

8 - I’ll be on holiday next week. Is it OK if I do my session from the hotel swimming pool? It’s got wi fi.

9 - Is it OK if I miss my session next week? It’s my birthday. Do I still have to pay?

10 - Is it OK if I go outside to have a cigarette? I’ll be back in a few minutes.

11 - Oh, I’m so sorry, I think my feet smell.

12 - Is it OK if I leave my ‘phone on? I’m expecting a call from …

13 - I hope you don’t mind me bringing my mum along today?

14- Oh, I’m really sorry, I didn’t realise my socks had holes in them.

20-

I’m sorry, I came out without any change and my car’s on the meter. Do you have some change you could let me have?

16 - The traffic in your street is awful. Why don’t you live somewhere else?

17 - I’m sorry I didn’t have time for breakfast. Is it OK if I have my croissant and coffee now?

18 - I thought I’d run here today and I’m all sweaty. I hope you don’t mind if I make your chair a bit wet.

19 - I know you’ve got light carpets but I hate taking my shoes off. Is it OK if I keep them on to come upstairs?

21 - I’ve hurt my foot. Do you have a room downstairs we can use this week?

22 - My husband’s running late. Can we start the session without him?

23 - Sorry, I’m running late. Is it OK if we just have 15 minutes today?

24 - Sorry, I’m running late. Is it OK if we start half an hour later today?

25 - I’ve lost my voice and I can’t speak but I didn’t want to miss it today so I’ve still come. I hope that’s OK.

26 - I’ve got a terrible cold and cough, I’m all hot and sweaty but I wanted to come today. I hope that’s OK?

27 - Can I come every couple of weeks instead of weekly?

28 - Can you open your gate so I can leave my bike in your back garden?

29 - I was speaking to my friend about our sessions and she thinks …

30 - I was reading online that the best type of therapy is CBT. Are you doing that?

How would you deal with these situations? What are your thoughts?

Do please share them with me via email
Allan
